How to deal with your hair during the time you want to let it grow or else?

I was thinking on letting my hair grow until it reaches my neck, but I would like to know what to do in the in between time cause it doesn't look good. I thought on wearing a lot of beanie hat, but wouldn't I look weird always with that. May I have some good ideas maybe for what I have expressed or some other cool hair ideas? (F.Y.I. I'm a Male.)
