How to wear a "Slouchie" beanie?

I bought a slouchie beanie from hot topic and I've read different articles on how to wear one correctly, but when I put it on as instructed instead of slouching it looks like it folds, and looks awful. :( My hair isn't really that long, not even to my shoulders. Any advice? Thanks.
